Job Overview:
The Family Support Worker plays a crucial role in assisting Child Protection Workers at the Nipigon District Office, with a primary focus on coordinating and overseeing supervised access visits for children and families.
This position provides a broad spectrum of social services to support the development of therapeutic plans and interventions for individuals, families, children, and youth under the care of the Nipigon District Office. The role is centered on empowering families through supportive, educational, and uplifting approaches.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide vital support to families, children, and youth receiving services from the Nipigon District Office, contributing to therapeutic plans and goals.
- Collaborate with Child Protection Workers to facilitate supervised access visits between children and their families.
- Play an active role in supporting children’s attachment to their parents, extended family, and other significant individuals.
- Strengthen family connections and maintain relationships for children in placements by fostering meaningful interactions.
- Travel within the district as needed to provide on-site support and supervision.
Qualifications:
- A Child and Youth Worker Diploma or equivalent education/experience in related fields.
- Strong understanding of child development stages and ability to identify developmental challenges caused by trauma or other factors.
- Proven ability to establish trusting relationships with families, children, and youth involved in child welfare services.
- Knowledge of child maltreatment risk factors (e.g., domestic violence, substance abuse) and appropriate interventions.
- Creative problem-solving skills and flexibility in working collaboratively with children, families, and other professionals.
- Exceptional organizational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, concise documentation.
- Valid G driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and a clean driving record.
- A clean Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check is required upon employment offer.
